How to go 7 days without washing your hair

I decided to let you all into my diary of how I go 7 days without washing my hair.

Day 1-

Dear Diary,

It is the first day of hair washing day and I feel

F A B U L O U S!!

So soft, so clean so F L U F F Y!

Day 1 is for washing and wearing your hair straight. I always do my hair straight on the first day because it will tame everything and help set up our styles for the next days (you can also wear it for a couple of days if you like wearing it straight). One thing I feel like is extra crucial for starting the 7 day challenge is to make sure that you do a very good shampoo. I usually will wash my hair three times in the shower to make sure all the build-up is out and my hair is squeaky clean.

DAY 2

Dear Diary,

Day 2= curls!

This is my favorite day of the week. Any special event I have coming up I will always plan for day 2.

This is usually my first day of curls. I make sure that I do each and every layer and spend more time on it because I like to be lazier on the other days. Time spent now means time saved later.

DAY 3

Dear Diary,

Today is Leftover meatloaf!

We are going to work with what we got. Just remember, you like leftover meatloaf.

For day three I simply take a brush to my hair and then just call it good. I will fix some pieces in the front if I sleep pretty crazy.

DAY 4

Dear Diary,

Today I have nowhere to go and I’m going to try and squeeze one more day in of some leftover curls.

DAY 5

Dear Diary,

Today is the first day of dry shampoo. It has given me hope that I can finish off with a gold medal.

Now I have tried so many dry shampoos and I’m extremely picky because I struggle to put on more smells on dirty hair. Since I have long hair I also don’t like it to add more build up to my hair. My favorite dry shampoo is from the brand R&Co that we sell at the salon. The shampoo is called Skyline. I also love spraying on the Oribe Mystify Restyling spray because on this day, I will go back in and curl some pieces so I like to have a new layer of protection on my hair from the heat.

DAY 6

Dear Diary,

We are getting very close to the end. Today’s style choices are:

#1 Bang Braid

#2 Extra side part

#3 Ponytail

#4 Chunky side braid.

#5 Top KNOT

Today I went with the side braid. I usually resort to one of these on day 6.

DAY 7!!!!

Dear Diary,

We are here day 7! I’m so happy I was able to get through this. However, I feel like we need to create a distraction. Here are my choices.

#1 Bun

#2 Full ponytail

#3 Bandana

#4 Extra Large earrings.

#5 Hat

We made it through all the days!! Just remember you can totally customize this to fit your life and style. I am always trying to mix it up and switch up days, or even do some fun styles. I would love to hear if you have tried it, and also if you have any questions.

Q&A

  • How do you keep it from going frizzy?? I usually have to straighten the pieces by my ears and I love using serums to help, especially if the weather puts a damper on things. I love using Tinsel from R&CO, or I also love Moroccan Oil.
  • How did you train your hair to go 7 days??? I honestly feel like it is a training session that you have to do. If I were just starting out I would probably go 3 days the first time then add a day each time till I worked up to 7. Brushing it is crucial to help get those oils dispersed.
  • What is your favorite dry shampoo?? SKYLINE I love it because it doesn’t leave a residue or smell. Any hair color can use it and it leaves your hair feeling amazing.
  • What shampoo do you use?? Right now I use Televison from R&CO and I absolutely love it. I feel like shampooing is key in going 7 days, because you doing want one that’s going to put a waxing layer or leave a film on it. I also think scrubbing each layer is important, I also wash mine 3 times in the shower to get all the build-up out which helps me go longer.
  • Do you blow dry your hair or air dry? I always blow dry mine, even if it’s only the top layer. Creating that volume will help keep it off the scalp longer and that is key to stop some of that grease from showing. This will also help with frizziness and give you a smoother finish. Never blow dry your hair when you get straight out of the shower, I let mine air dry 80% before I start blowdrying.

I hope this helped and answered all of your questions. If there is any product info or links you need, feel free to ask.

Fall Bandana Ideas

Fall time is for trying new things.

Let’s think about it. In the fall, everyone wants to change the color of their hair, maybe try and go a little darker, maybe try a different length.

So why not try some new ways to style your hair with bandanas?? Right now I’m really loving using fun accessories in my hair like these bandanas and also using it to tie around my neck. Here are 4 easy, fun ways to style them.

  1. Ponytail. Why not take a classic ponytail up a notch adding a fun bandana.

2. A Neck Tie. Using the bandana to tie around your neck adds a great statement piece, especially for fall.

3. Half up Half down hairstyle. This hairstyle was achieved by sectioning off my hair in half with a rubber band and tying it off with this bandana.

4. Half-up bun. This has been my new favorite style.

The Launching of Shop Hello Pretties

It is finally here! The Launch of Shop Hello Pretties!

Ever since I have started my blog, I have always had a dream to add a clothing shop option. This is the year I decided to take the big leap. Although it is scary and I had no idea what I was doing I’m so glad I have moved forward and haven’t looked back.

I am so grateful for all the overwhelming support I have gotten. I had no idea I would have so many people message me, call me or come to the salon so excited for me.

I hope you all take a moment and watch this short launch video we made to help so many women who struggle with finding who they are. If only we could see ourselves how our kids see us or even how others see us. So many times I have been so worried about how I look (Body image, bad hair day, or my disabilities) but just remember.. every single one of you is so beautiful and you have so much to offer. This video makes me cry because it is so powerful. I talk about something so personal that I never ever thought I would share. My goal is to help even one person to feel better about themselves and have the confidence they need and deserve. Please take a moment of your time to check it out. You can also view my shop at Shophellopretties.com

Half Up Halo Braid Tutorial

It is time for a change.

Yes, a change in your daily hair routine. It’s Valentine’s Day so why not spice up the night with a romantic hairstyle.

I have to do a huge shout out to Devry Reeder Photography she is amazing and if you are in the Northern Utah area and need a great photographer, she is your gal.

Basically, all I am doing for this simple look is grabbing a piece from the front and doing a small dutch braid. (picking up hair and braiding it under) I stop picking up hair when I get a little past my ear and then do a regular braid and tie it off with a clear elastic. Repeat on the other side, then connect the two braids together. The last and most important step is to “fluff” out your braid. Remember sometimes it takes a few times to get this braid down but you will have it in no time.

xoxo pretties!

Healing Your Dry, Brittle Winter Hair.

Winter is the worst for dry, brittle hair… THEE WORST! I always get so many questions this time of year for how to keep our hair healthy and shiny durning these winter months.

Here are the products I recommend for this time of year. Now I am biased towards these brands because I am obsessed with them and know that they truly work. However, lots of brands have similar types of products that you can try as well.

Leave-in Conditioners-

This will add extra moisture to your hair and help seal the cuticle. I love the “High Dive” leave in cream from Rand Co and also “Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream” by Oribe.

Detangler-

Helps get tangles out, protects the hair from future breakage like knots, heat, etc. I use “Run Through” by Oribe, it is hands down my favorite detangled. Especially for my clients with extensions.

Serum-

I can’t imagine life without serum. This will add the oils into your hair that the ends are lacking and not getting naturally from your scalp. I love how amazing this will help to take the frizz out of your hair and leave it so shiny and sleek. I have two oils I love “Tinsel” by Rand Co (this one is more on the light weight side) or “Gold Lust” by Oribe (this one is a lot more intense for really dry course hair and especially for extensions)

Texture Spray-

The number one reason I suggest texture spray is to help you not use hair spray. I know we love hairspray and it is the best for some styles, but durning this time of year it will just be so much harder on your hair. Hairspray will not only dry your hair out but it will also put a film on it and make you have to wash your hair more frequently. To help with that the texture spray will give you volume and s little bit of hold. I have tried lots of different texture sprays and my favorite by far is the Oribe “Dry Texture Spray”.

Static Control Spray-

Raise your hand if you hate static!! I know I do, I have recently discovered this product and it works so good at keeping the static and frizz away. I especially love using it on those days where I want to wear my hair straight and have that super smooth look. This product is called “Foil” and it is also by Rand Co. It’s the best.
